Volunteering

Our Volunteers are our greatest assets! Whether it is serving on the Library Advisory Board, working in our special programs, decorating, landscaping, cleaning, sorting or displaying books---our volunteers give of their time and talents to make SPL the best.

How to Become a Volunteer

There are many ways to volunteer for the library. Join the Friends and use this list of activities as a guide to using your time and talents for the good of the Smithville Public Library..

You are invited to join our core of dedicated volunteers! By sharing your time and talent with us, you can make a huge difference in the quality of the Friends of the Smithville Public Library organization and the library services in our community.

  • Hospitality: Assist with hospitality for Library and Friends meetings.
  • Library Staff Assistance: Circulation desk, shelving, inventory (Training provided)
  • Mail Prep/Copy machine tasks: (as needed/requested by Staff)
  • Book Sale/Membership: Work the Book Sales, Register new and renewing members; Assist with set up/breakdown before and after the Book Sales.
  • Donations:  Assist with sorting donations, boxing, readying for boxing, etc. (Training provided)
  • Summer Reading/Bookworms: Registration; craft prep; cleaning books; shelving books; displays; assist with crafts and programs.
  • Story Time: Help with the library's children's programs by reading books, poems, etc.
